About Us

James Brown’s Place has been a staple in the community since it opened in 1998 by the legend himself, James Brown. James has created a menu and an atmosphere that the people of Rochester love. When James decided to retire in 2020, he sold his famous secret recipes and menus to me, Amanda Joyce, a lifelong Rochester resident and customer living right down the street, to keep the legendary diner going. I am a single mom to a group of 6 siblings I saw online in 2008 who were available for adoption and separated in foster care in Oregon. I adopted them and they grew up. The oldest, Vanessa, finished high school in 2020 and needed a path to follow. Vanessa and I decided that buying a business and learning all aspects of it would be a great fit for Vanessa. She is currently co-owner and your cook. Her siblings; Rebecca, Julian, Joanna, Jazmine, and Allena all work here and love serving the community and being a part of this.
